    The finish is VERY dark, almost a dark cherry--the photos show a MUCH lighter stain that is not at all representative.

    I usually don't leave reviews but felt compelled to do so on this purchase. Other reviews said it was miserable to assemble. I thought it was very easy. My husband started it by himself and I finishied it by myself. For the upper half, 2 people are necessary to help hold pieces in place while you screw them together. Did have trouble connecting the lid to the rest of it. Had to buy longer screws to keep the lid from falling off. Very beautiful color and looks just like the picture.

    Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      Bench hinges are terrible!

        Comments about Homestead Hall Tree - Warm Oak:

        Set-up could require a helping hand at certain times but it is manageable alone. About 1.5 hours including unpacking and clean-up.

        End result is a nice looking hall tree with a bench lid that will not close all the way (hinges)and hinge springs that are so tight, it warps the whole back frame when trying to lift the lid. It will not be long before the bolt heads pull completely through the wood, so it is not usable with the hinges in place. The hinges are one of the last things to put on and took my opinion of this product from a 4 to a 1 - they are that bad!

        The other issue (5 to a 4) is that the color is not warm oak and does not look like the pictures. It is more of a DARK cherry.

        Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

        Assembly was very difficult,because many of the holes were drilled smaller than the dowels.Had to re-drill some of the holes myself,and the bench attachment was very weak.and I ended up replacing the screws and inserts with bolts and nuts.Once modified it does work well and looks very attractive.

        Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
